2026 trends
The short answer
Four shifts matter this year: Clear Channel's $6.2B take-private closing around Q3 2026 Clear Channel Outdoor (investor release) Announced 9 February 2026, T-Mobile operating Vistar with carrier movement data T-Mobile Newsroom 2025, the retail media convergence pulling in-store screens into retailer deals, and pDOOH growing 22.6% to a forecast $1.22B eMarketer 2026 forecast. AI creative is real but changes production cost, not media price.
Shift by shift: does it change what you pay?
- Clear Channel private: $2.43/share, $6.2B EV, $3B new equity to cut debt Clear Channel Outdoor (investor release) Announced 9 February 2026. Buyer effect: medium. A deleveraged owner can hold rate-card discipline; renewal quotes after close deserve extra scrutiny (the platform page).
- T-Mobile/Vistar: carrier data enters screen-level targeting T-Mobile Newsroom 2025. Buyer effect: real but priced; data fees are one more unpublished line, so the written fee-stack request matters more, not less (Vistar).
- Retail media convergence: in-store screens priced inside retailer deals rather than the open market. Buyer effect: high if you sell in-store; your DOOH line may migrate into the trade budget (the format).
- pDOOH share climb: +22.6% to about 30% of DOOH revenue eMarketer 2026 forecast. Buyer effect: more inventory reachable from a seat each quarter; the direct-vs-programmatic decision tilts gradually, not suddenly (the decision).
Vendor noise, filtered
Claims that do not survive sourcing: "65% programmatic in 2026" (a 2029 projection misquoted; the stamped numbers are in statistics), AI-targeting decks with no named data source, and screen-count inflation nobody audits. The test is always the same: does a primary source publish the number, and would you defend it in review?
What a planner does differently this year
- Lock multi-flight direct pricing before the Clear Channel close resets desks (levers).
- Pilot one data-targeted pDOOH flight with the all-in fee quoted in writing, judged against the published bands on the rate board.
- If you sell in retail, get your in-store screen pricing inside the retail media negotiation, not after it.
